New Disposition Blues    7-8 pm

The New Disposition Blues Band is a home-grown Alpena group offering a unique mix of vintage Chicago-style blues, country blues, gospel blues, and swinging originals. They hosted a great songwriting workshop at our 2008 Festival and have played locally at many community events including the 2008 Alpena County Fair and Alpena’s Winterfest 2009. Lead vocalist Bonnie Bartz has been singing the blues since she was 10. Veteran musician John McLellan plays lead guitar, harmonica, and sings. John’s wife Paula McLellan plays bass and provides backup vocals. On keyboards and accordion is Diane Bartz, well known locally for her exuberant musical style.  On drums is Randy MacAulay, who you can tell “just loves the blues”. On rhythm and slide guitar is Jim Bartz, who brings along a few tunes of his own including “When the blues comes knockin’”, “US 23 blues”, and “She’s got the goodies”. When they get together on stage, they are full of energy and fun!

Erich Goebel w/The Flying Crowbars 8-10 pm
Erich Goebel is a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist from Detroit.  He performs all over southeast Michigan with the trio of James Cloyd, Jr on Bass, Perez Morris on Drums and Erich Goebel on Guitar.  His latest cd is East Side Soul recorded by No Cover Productions but with a different group comprised of: RJ Spangler on Drums, Chris Rummel on Bass, Shawn MacDonald on Piano and Phil Hale on Hammond B-3 and Cheeze on drums and Jerome Spearman also on drums.  His rockin’ blues music gets the foot a tapin’.  Favorite artists are Freddie King, B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters among a few.

Joanna Connor Band  10-12 pm
The Joanna Connor Band is a frequent attraction not only at leading blues nightspots but also as a featured act at major festivals in the USA and Canada. Joanna has also developed a strong following in Europe, South America and Japan. As a result of many overseas appearances, in Germany she became very popular after being featured several times on national television. She may be heard often at Kingston Mines in Chicago.
Joanna Connor is a complete electric guitar package and vocalist extraordinaire. She covers the range of modern blues, slide guitar and blues rock with her own compositions very much influenced by funk, rock, jazz and world music as well as delta blues. Her sense of melody, phrasing and dynamics along with a very modern technique make her a very funky, soulful and compelling guitarist. As for vocal abilities, if Joanna wasn't a guitarist, she could easily be a lead singer in any band.
Joanna Connor Band has many CD's released during the years. Be sure to be ready for a great show on Friday, June 25 at 10:00pm at the Alpena Blues Festival.

Hosted Open Jam  (Merchants Building)  12-2 am

Bits and Pieces (youth band)  1-2 pm
Bits 'N' Pieces started in the summer of 2006 as a duet for a benefit performance. Before long, as new gigs became available, the group transformed into a five-piece ensemble. The band played various shows around Alpena, including two Alpena High School talents shows, taking first place at the second competition in 2008.
In the four years of its existence, Bits 'N' Pieces has experienced many changes in line-up and style, along with playing more benefits, fundraisers, school functions, and a wedding. At least 12 local musicians have performed with the group, giving true meaning to its name. Originally a predominantly rock group, the band now specializes in jazz, blues, funk, and good fun. Current members include founders Pat Altman and Ryan Nowak on bass and lead guitar. Returning member Chris Gomez also joins them on guitar, along with long-time drummer, James Daoust, and experienced saxophonist, Josh Bisanz. All members have also played together in the Alpena High School bands as well as the Alpena Community College Jazz Ensemble. Bits ‘N’ Pieces is a band with no misconceptions of what it is. The group is not trying to make it big, they just want to make rockin’ music and have fun while doing so.

Detroit Bluescasters 2-4 pm
The Bluescasters derive their unique style from the diverse backgrounds of it's member musicians. Elements of jazz, R & B, and rock, and are woven into their songs. All four members have been active, professional musicians for over 30 years. In 2009 the group added Ann Arbor's legendary jazz guitar master, Brian Delaney. The Bluescasters use vocal harmony over a groove oriented rhythm section to emphasize the instrumental solos and to drive dance floors wherever they perform. The Bluescasters reached the 2006 finals in the Detroit Music Awards category of "Best Blues/R & B Artist" and have released three CDs. The main focus of the band is entertaining their audience. Even the staff and management at the clubs they play enjoy the party atmosphere and great vibe at their shows.

Broken Arrow Blues Band    4-6 pm
Broken Arrow's style is pure Detroit Style" in your face" Electric Blues & Boogie. From it's conception, the Band has hit the ground running, releasing the first of three CD's in just 4 months. The first CD saw ratings on the Roots & Blues Music Charts straight away with 3 of the cuts in the top 20 for weeks. Broken Arrow Has shared the stage with Industry Giants like: Walter Trout,Three times, twice by Walter's request!!! Ana Popovic,Twice!!, Johnny Winter, & The Kinsey Report....not bad for a "NEW" Band. The Band followed that up with a LIVE release, and is poised to release the next studio CD & another LIVE CD soon. The music of Broken Arrow Blues Band is a mixture of Traditional Blues leaning heavy to the rocky side, with some Funk mixed in and a flare of Jazz/Fusion interspersed with non traditional changes and BIG Chords. The feel of this Band could be described as Joe Bonnamassa meets Jeff Beck handcuffed to Howlin'Wolf in a Taxi with James Brown Ya'll...  With members from all over the Globe , the band is truly world class. Al Grebovic,  from Mostar, Bosnia, A 20 year Veteran Guitar Player, Shadowhawk Ellis, from Louisville, Kentucky, A Circuit Mainstay & Drummer for 35 years, & Peter Carter, from New Orleans, Louisiana, Bass Man Fresh off the road from Cyril Neville's Band, give the band a great mix of styles and a tendency to cover all the bases in a Deep Grooved, Hard Hitting  performaces.  Look for the Band to be at almost ALL the Michigan Blues Festivals in 2010, and touring soon to a venue near you.

Thirsty Perch Blues Band
Thirsty Perch Blues Band  6-8 pm

Mark Arshak Band   8-10 pm
The Mark Arshak Band was formed in 1994 featuring  singer Mark Arshak on  guitar, dobro, harp and vocals; Brian Cox on guitar, Kevin Gall on bass & vocals and  Gordy Sharpe on drums.
Mark was born in Detroit and started playing guitar at age 8. At 14 he moved to rural nothern Michigan.
The desolate new location was a stark contrast from the city and he found salvation in his guitar. At 17 he hitch-hiked to Texas, then out to California and finally to Greenville, Mississippi where he worked as a deckhand on the Mississippi River.  Along the way Mark learned the 'devils blues' in the streets and aboard river boats learning how to play guitar and harp first hand at the foot of bluesmen, country pickers, and rock-n-rollers.  Returning to Michigan, he formed the first of several bands.
Since '94 he has toured nationally and internationally with his current band.  Opening for many acts including George Thorogood, Otis Rush, Jonny Lang, Taj Mahal and Bo Diddley Great memories include jams with James Cotton, Eddy 'The Chief ' Clearwater, Cash McCall, Buddy Guy , Larry McCray, Ian McClaggen of The Faces, and Charlie Martin & Drew Abbot of The Silver Bullet Band.
